EMT Course

During the fall semester of 2025, while on co-op at GE Appliances in Louisville, KY working on the Clothes Care team, I decided that I wanted to take an online EMT course. I made this decision because I am very interested in the medical field and a friend of mine who is studying medicine told me he was going to take a similar course, so I thought it would be an interesting experience where I would get to learn more about medicine and what emergency healthcare providers experience every day. I chose the Flight Bridge ED EMT course because it was headquartered in Bowling Green, KY which was two hours from my apartment in Louisville, and it had one in person training day so I could complete most of the class online in the evening after work. I found this course to be a meaningful introduction to the world of emergency medical care and the skills that are required to respond effectively in critical situations. Throughout the course, I learned how to recognize and respond to a variety of medical emergencies, including cardiac, respiratory, and trauma-related conditions. I gained hands-on experience in CPR, first aid, and scene safety, which helped me understand the importance of quick decision making and being a leader in high-pressure situations. I also learned valuable skills at the in person training day such as how to roll/lift someone onto a spine board, how to use the Kendrick Extrication Device to lift a patient out of their vehicle while preventing any further possible injury, how to check blood glucose, how to carry someone down the stairs in a stair chair, and much more. This experience strengthened my interest in the field of healthcare, while also increasing my confidence in my ability to assist others in real-world scenarios.

For my showcase sample, I chose to include a photo of my American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) eCard certification. This certification represents my ability to perform CPR for adults, children, and infants, as well as my understanding of essential life-saving techniques. I selected this to be my showcase sample because it is proof of the skills I have developed and demonstrates my commitment to learning ways to help others. I feel as though it serves as clear evidence of both my training and my readiness to apply these skills when they are necessary.
