RCIA: Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
Growing up, I had never really thought about religion. My parents and I went to a Christian mass occasionally, but it wasn't part of our regular routine, nor had I been baptized. While in high school, part of my academic curriculum was to take Theology classes and attend weekly mass at the Cathedral. In doing so, I learned more about God and wanted to make a more permanent commitment to my faith.
Spring of 2020, I decided that I wanted to get baptized. I wanted to be able to participate in the mass more and learn even more about God. I spoke with my parents about it and they helped me join the RCIA program, which focuses on teaching the Rites of Christian Initiation to adults. I met with Diane Robisch, an RCIA facilitator, at St. Aloysius of Gonzaga once a week to learn about the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, the Eucharist, and Reconciliation.
Following the completion of these classes, and with the help of my family and my sponsor, I was baptized and confirmed on August 16, 2020. Becoming Catholic has enriched my life by challenging me to be the best I can be in my faith and in my character.
